I am the HR director for my company. In case some of you guys don't know, HR stand for Human Resources. I am the go to person when employees want their voices to be heard by upper management. I am responsible for the employee's welfare with the company; which includes benefits, recognition, gathering information and presenting it. I guess everything that affects the employees, I'm involved.
So I am known around the corporate office as the "Coupon Queen". I am very good at saving $, which is all thanks to "Coupon Mom",http://www.couponmom.com/. I have seen a significant savings to my budget through the use of this systems. I use coupons on food, cleaning supplies, restaurants, clothes, you name it. Some of the items that I get are free or next to it. These items I keep for myself, I dontate to family and also local shelters.
I have learned to save money and in the process have more food and every day items on hand. I have a co-worker who is really interested in learning how the process works because her husband recently lost his job and they need to find ways to stretch their budget. Then I realized that there are alot of people in her situation that could benefit from learning how this process works. So I decided to present the idea to upper management in my company to allow me to hold weekly session in the office for our employees. After all I am HR and I always look out for my employees. Well I recently did a survey to poll and see how many of our employees are interested, I don't want to waste anyones time. I think you should know that majority of our work force are males, I work around engineers. So I wasn't sure that they would be interested. Low and behold, everyone was interested and they all agreed to do it after hours so they could bring their spouses and friends. I was asked by the President of the company "What does coupons and savings have to do with our employees?", are you kidding me? It has everything to do with the employees. We are all struggling to make ends meet in this economy and if they can save $ on things that they buy the most, food, then they would be less stressed about finances and able to focus on their job.
Lets just say that I was given the green light to hold weekly classes in our conference room. Although I could hold it outside of the company and charge a fee, but that would defeat the purpose of teaching my employees the may ways to save money. I feel that it is my duty as HR to inform my employees on things that they can do to improve their home life and professional life.
